Graphic and extreme violence content is becoming increasingly visible and accessible across the internet, driven by platform algorithms, niche online communities, and the rapid sharing of unmoderated material. Despite this growth, research and professional training in this space remains limited, leaving many practitioners underprepared to understand, respond to, or support young people exposed to such content. As a result, gore content is often minimised, normalised or misunderstood, despite its potential psychological impact.
This presentation aims to provide a grounded introduction to gore and extreme violence content online. Designed for professionals working in education, mental health, community services, safety, and digital harm prevention, the session builds awareness of what this content is, who is accessing it, where it circulates, and most importantly – why it matters.
